Cell Phone Signal Boosters Compared

Heading out away from it all? Let’s review the most popular cell phone signal boosters. Anyone who has spent any amount of time off-grid knows that cell phone signal is always an issue.

Cell Phone Signal Boosters Compared

While most of us still like to walk around to hilltops and stretch our arms out to the sky for a shot at a better signal, I’m not convinced that actually works. Even more so, when you boondock away from it all on BLM or other Public Lands, there is often NO signal. In this week’s breakdown, we will compare 5 of the Top Selling Cell Phone Signal Boosters for your RV or Vehicle in 2020.

WeBoost Drive X RV Cell Phone Signal Booster

Coming in at the top of the pile, is the brand that most of us have heard of being the authority of cell phone signal boosters, WeBoost. In this first option the WeBoost Drive X RV is aimed at the, well, you guessed it RV Crowd.

This all-weather antenna is designed to be installed on the upper RV/Roof area of your RV for increased ranges of cell data that increased up to 33%. Design is a centrally located hub with a cable routed to the exterior-mounted antenna with a power supply feed.

Most Common Positive Customer Points: Easy to install, quality product, and packaging/instructions. Good Customer Support, Improved Cell Service

Most Common Negative Customer Points: Need to be physically very close to the unit for any gain. A small improvement in service, if any at all.

  • Model Number: 471410
  • Compatible Carriers: All (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular)
  • Size: 6.25 x 4.5 x 1 inches

  • Integrated Phone APP Manager: No

HiBoost Travel 4G 2.0 RV Cell Phone Signal Booster

Hi Boost, another big name in the cell phone signal booster market, comes in next with its Travel 4G 2.0 RV model. The same model theme as the WeBoost, a centrally located hub with a cable routed to the exterior-mounted antenna with a power supply feed.

Most Common Positive Customer Review Points: Easy to install andImproved Cell Service as advertised.

Most Common Negative Customer Review Points: As of this writing (Summer 2020) there are literally no negative reviews. Keep in mind, the product has not been on market long, not enough data in for a consensus on negative reviews. The integrated App that HiBoost owns for this product has awful reviews in the Apple App Store.

  • Model Number: Travel 4G 2.0 RV
  • Compatible Carriers: All Major US Carriers
  • Size: 8.6 in × 6.5 in× 2 in inches
  • Supports: Multiple Users
  • Speeds: Up to 50 dB System Gain with 10dB output
  • FCC Approval Status: Yes
  • 5G Compatible: No or Not Advertised (2G GSM, 3G and 4G)
  • Customer Support Based: US Based, Texas.
  • Integrated Phone APP Manager: Yes, however, has terrible reviews.

SolidRF RV Pro Kit Cell Phone Signal Booster

Our next option is the SolidRF RV Pro Kit. This option from SolidRF is designed to be installed on the upper RV/Roof area of your RV for advertised increased ranges of cell service up to 5-8 miles of improved range. Design is different here with a centrally located hub PLUS an additional interior antenna for additional service signal within your RV. This is a nice design as in other product reviews, many said they needed to be close to the booster for it to work. With this second interior antenna, that may help with this common issue.  Check it out here.

Most Common Positive Customer Points: Quality Product and Packaging/Instructions. Responsive Customer Support and Improved Cell Service

Most Common Negative Customer Points: Small improvement in service, if any at all.

  • Model Number: RV Pro Kit
  • Compatible Carriers: All (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular)
  • Size: Not Listed on website
  • Supports: Multiple Users
  • Speeds: Up to 55 dB System Gain
  • FCC Approval Status: Yes
  • 5G Compatible: No or Not Advertised
  • Customer Support Based: US, Utah (again)
  • Integrated Phone APP Manager: No or not advertised

AnyCallCell Phone Signal Booster For RV

Anycall is a cell phone signal booster company I had not heard of prior to Amazon Search. A quick look at their website showed them as a company based out of China. This design is similar to Weboost with a Unit, Power cable, All-Weather Antenna and cable for routing.

In all honesty, this is the first on the list where the antenna and mounting bracket start looking cheaper in quality. FULL DISCLOSURE: They may NOT be a cheaper quality, but from an average consumer standpoint, it “looks” cheaper. Check it out here.

Most Common Positive Customer Points: Easy to install, quality product and packaging/instructions. Good Customer Support, Improved Cell Service

Most Common Negative Customer Points: No Improvement to Signal, Faulty Equipment (cable fitting not matching Antenna receiver fitting).

  • Model Number: AnyCall For RV
  • Compatible Carriers: All (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular)
  • Size: 6.29 x 2.4 x 0.7 inches
  • Supports: Multiple Users
  • Speeds: Up to 45 dB System Gain
  • FCC Approval Status: Per Website “FCC Certified”
  • 5G Compatible: No
  • Customer Support Based: China (Non-US)
  • Integrated Phone APP Manager: No

PhoneTone for RV – No Model Name Specific

Coming in at our last option is the PhoneTone for RV Signal Booster. This booster has the greatest improvement claims by the manufacturer of a 72dB Gain. Again, this shares the same quality concerns as the last being that it “looks” cheaper.

However, for the savings of $200, I’ll leave that to you if it matters or not. Design is once again the Power cable, All-Weather Antenna and cable for routing. This was the only booster we looked at where there were multiple reviews left where the customers claimed that major Cell Carriers were BLOCKING this product in some manner and it was useless.

Most Common Positive Customer Points: Easy to install, Improved Cell Service. Easy Returns when needed

Most Common Negative Customer Points: Blocked for use by Cell Phone Company, Poor improvement and Poor Customer Tech Support.

  • Model Number: None Listed
  • Compatible Carriers: All (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular)
  • Size: 7.3 x 4.3 x 0.94 inches
  • Supports: Multiple Users
  • Speeds: Up to 72 dB System Gain
  • FCC Approval Status: “Certified” per Phonetone website.
  • 5G Compatible: No
  • Customer Support Based: China
  • Integrated Phone APP Manager: No

Final Thoughts on Cell Phone Signal Boosters

Overall, there isn’t a ton of companies offering Cell Phone Service Booster kits. Of the top 5 we discussed here, the overall winners would be HiBoost, WeBoost, and SolidRF due to their shared great reviews, quality product testimonials, and excellent US Based Customer Service.

When it comes to the ability to have communication off-grid, I don’t need to save $200 just to get a substandard product with poor customer service and potentially, being blocked by my cell carrier (yikes).
