Overlanding Toilet? Pop-A-Squat and Let’s Talk About it

OK, we get it, not the prettiest topic to discuss, but guess what? We all gotta go to the bathroom when we gotta go, even when overlanding. So, here are the best toilets for overlanding available today. A good overlanding toilet can save the day but selecting the right one can be quite an unfun task. To save your time and help you select the best overlanding toilet, I have done the doodie, I mean the duty of the research.

During my lookover, I found some toilets for overlanding that are quite versatile and have some cool features.

I’ve compiled a list of them for you here. You may not be thanking me now, but you will at 2 am when you are not squatting behind a tree.

In an effort to continue the Leave No Trace principles, we present the Best Overlanding Toilets!

Types of Overlanding Toilets and How Overlanding Toilets Work

Selecting the right type of equipment may seem too straightforward. However, it may not be as easy as it seems, either. Especially when there are so many options available in the outdoor market.

Here are some of the most important points that you need to consider when choosing the best toilet for overlanding.

Basically, there are a couple types of camping toilets that I am going to go over here. Pop a squat and let’s talk camping toilets.

Regular Toilet Seats

These are just ordinary toilet seats consisting of seat frames in most cases. They are the most basic types of seats that don’t possess any waste disposal bags or water tanks.

All you need to do is to place them on top of a bucket or even a hole that you have dug near your camp and you are good to go. They are highly recommended for those who wish to keep this very cheap.

Water Tank Toilets

These types of toilets are usually a step further. They are specially prepared for camping (or glamping) and other outdoor purposes.

They have water tanks that contain freshwater for cleaning and wastewater. These types of toilets are highly recommended for overlanding.

They cost a bit more than the regulars seat style but come with some extra features that are quite useful.

Best Toilets For Overlanding

If you are heading out on a new overlanding adventure, not any type will do.

However, if you are limited on space as most of us overlanders are, then chances are you may only need to select the lightest and smallest options. With all of that said, here are the best available today.

Go Anywhere Portable Toilet

The first product on my list of recommendations is the Go-Anywhere portable toilet. It is one of the most efficient overlanding setups that’ll cover you no matter where you go.

The first thing that I want to talk about is its portability. While you are going out on an adventure you’ll need to keep your carrying weight as light as possible.

Being so lightweight, it is also foldable and allows you to carry it like a briefcase, that you poop in.

Another thing that I like the most about this portable toilet is its deodorizing agent. It comes in handy as this built-in feature completely neutralizes smells.

Another great feature of this portable toilet is its easily removable wast bags.

One major thing that you need to look for in a portable toilet is its weight tolerance. Luckily the Go Anywhere can support up to 500 lbs which makes it suitable even for almost anyone.

One thing that I noticed about this portable toilet is its eco-friendly features, it completely breaks down the waste and locks them into secure bags.

Camco Portable Travel Toilet

The Camco portable travel toilet is another perfect option for those who really doing it fancy with no smell!

Now there are a few things that make it stand out from the crowd. First of all, it is quite sturdy and has a water tank on it.

The water tank allows you to fill it with water that makes the cleaning easier. However, I am not a huge fan of its water tank system because it gets a bit messy sometimes.

Apart from that, it is highly ECO friendly as there as a sealing slide valve.

It helps in locking the odors and allows the surroundings to remain fresh. It also proves to be quite effective against leakage which prevents any annoying accidents.

Apart from that this portable toilet features side latches that secure the tank. You don’t need to worry about any water seeping from the openings.

Now, this toilet may not be the sturdiest one but it can support a load of up to 330 lbs which is enough for most.

This particular toilet has two tanks. One is the main water tank while the other one is a waste tank.

However, they are detachable which makes the toilet a bit easier to carry around and less messy at cleaning time.

Reliance Products TRI-To-Go

If you are someone who prefers minimal equipment, then I have something right up your ally. The Reliance products TRI-To-Go is one of the best overlanding toilets due to a couple of reasons.

It consists of bags and metal legs that provide sturdy support to the user. It is effortless to carry around, no matter what kind of travel, you can simply fold it and go.

In addition to its durable structure, it isn’t heavy as compared to other overlanding toilets which give it an edge over other equipment for overlanding. It can support a load of 300 lbs which is pretty much ok for anyone.

One thing that you should keep in mind is its not a normal overlanding stool. You should treat it as a camping toilet by all means. I’ve seen people complaining about the fabric quality in the reviews.

Apart from that, it is effortless to use. It doesn’t require any complex setup you need to put a bag inside, and it will be ready for you.

Another thing that I like the most about this portable overlanding toilet is it is super easy to clean. You don’t need to use water or any kind of chemicals (If you don’t want to).

However, I highly recommend properly disposing of the waste material, I shouldn’t have to say that, but I have to.

Reliance Products Luggable Loo

The Reliance products luggable loo is another best overlanding toilet in my list of recommendations. I like it due to a few reasons.

First of all, it has a very unique design that resembles a normal bucket. Incognito here folks.

However, it has a pretty comfortable seat at the top. It weighs only 3 pounds which isn’t too much of a problem when carrying it to the spot. Another feature that I like the most is its economical price.

This particular overlanding toilet isn’t too hard on your wallet which is makes it better than other options on the market.

It features a 20-liter capacity which makes it quite suitable for overlanding or hunting situations. It features easily removable bags which makes things much better.

You won’t find any smell even after doing your business which is a pretty good thing for fishermen and hunters.

Apart from that, you don’t have to go too far away from your spot with a spade to attend nature’s call. It is, by all means, one of the most efficient and reliable solutions available on the outdoor market right now.

Emergency Zone Honey Bucket Toilet Seat

If you are fond of minimal overlanding toilets that have sufficient water capacity then it can be a perfect fit for you. There are a few things that made me include it to the list.

The first and main reason is its extremely portable design that beats most options available in the market. It can carry up to 3 gallons of water in its tank which helps in easy cleaning and maintaining the toilet. It allows users up to 70 flushes at max on a single tank.

Another feature that I find quite amazing is the detachable water tanks. There are latches on both sides of the toilet that allows you to remove both the freshwater and the wastewater tank. It comes in handy when disposing of waste. Oh! I almost forgot to mention that the wastewater tank can hold up to 5 gallons of water.

No worries here about a mess as this toilet is completely sealed. You won’t find any water seeping from it unless you damage the tank. I highly recommend purchasing some deodorizing tablets especially when you are on extended summer trips, it will help you kill any bad odors and maintain a pleasant environment.

Bilka Portable Toilet Seat

The Bilka Portable toilet seat is another perfect option for those who prefer durability and simplicity. Its simple and lightweight design makes packing it in or out very easy.

With the help of its durable structure, it can sustain a maximum load of 300 lbs which is quite good for anyone.

This seat has added rubber pads to the legs. These pads help to provide maximum traction on any surface and help the toilet to stay stable without slipping. This isn’t a good time to be slipping.

Highly Recommended Accessories

These were some of my favorite recommendations for you. However, the reviews section doesn’t end here. Some additional products may come in handy for you.

Abco Tech Shower Tent

I recommend the pop-up privacy tent from the Abco Tech Store. It is some of the most fantastic features that make it a better accessory for the best overlanding toilets. It consists of high-quality fabric that is tear-proof (Unless you are going a little too harsh on it). If you are not using this for a bathroom, it can serve as an option for showers and changing.

Toilet Bags:

Now I am quite sure after reading the above article you might’ve selected an overlapping toilet for yourself. However, a overlanding toilet isn’t the only requirement. You’ll need proper toilet bags to properly throw away your waste.

For that, I highly recommend using the Green Elephant store’s toilet bags. First of all, they are completely biodegradable. These are eco-friendly and cheap to grab a pack for your trip, you will need them.

Another feature that makes them highly recommended is their capacity. Each bag can store up to 8 gallons of material which is way more than enough, hopefully. Normally, your average overlanding toilet contains around about 5 gallons of wasted water.

Waste Gelling and Deodorizing Powder

Of course, whenever there is a toilet there will be a pungent smell. I can understand how unbearable the situation can be. However, you shouldn’t worry at all as I have got you covered with the ECO GEL.

It is a kind of chemical that solidifies any liquid waste and the active ingredients in the formula helps to fight against bad odor. For overlanding, camping, and hiking purposes it works like a charm. Apart from that, the lemongrass scent makes the air much more pleasant to smell.

The package contains 10 sticks which are suitable for about 2 gallons of water. It comes at a highly economical price when compared to its functionality.

Conclusion

I know you’re wondering since we’re on this topic, so here are the Best Portable Camping Showers, you’re welcome. I’ve done my duty to teach you about doodie cleanup in the great outdoors. Hopefully, you will have selected the toilet for overlanding for yourself by now. I have also mentioned some of the highly recommended items that will enhance the capabilities of these toilets.

However, if you are still unsure about selecting the right type of toilet for camping then I would suggest going for the “Go Anywhere Portable Toilet” because there are so many cool features that make it the right choice for all kinds of situations. Alright, folks, you know the drill, grab your gear, your toilet, and GET OUTSIDE!
